Dylan and Trisha’s Malibu engagement session was in the works for a SUPER long time. That said, like all good things it was 100% worth the wait. Trisha and Dylan trusted me when it came to choosing the location for their session which is kind of the dream for a photographer. They gave me entire creative control over their engagement session which could have gone pretty bananas but knowing their life and personalities I wanted to keep things fairly laid back and true to who they are.
Although we originally planned on a sunset session at Point Dume State Beach a last minute change of plans brought us to the much more low key, but equally beautiful Leo Carrillo State Beach just a little bit further up the PCH in Malibu. I say more low key but there were definitely a minimum of 3 other engagement sessions happening at the same time. Normally sharing a location with a bunch of other couples is less than ideal but these two were total troopers. Seeing other photographers quite literally yank their subjects around through the tide demonstrating what I can only imagine were pretty awkward poses gave us all a pretty good laugh.
*PSA: I promise not to make your cut your feet standing stoically on a rock during your session with me nor will I make you stand fully clothed in the ocean, haha!*
Trisha was a total natural in front of the camera – one of the benefits to being a professional actress and she, of course, put Dylan perfectly at ease. The whole not being fully clothed in the ocean helped too I think, ha! These super cute humans spent their whole session cuddling up, twirling around and making out – not by my direction but because that is who they are as a couple. To be honest, I try to run my engagement session and subsequent wedding days as if I am your third wheel and this is what it looks like when a couple truly enjoys their time together and trusts me to lurk around documenting it all.
